This is when I started. |
I started seriously 3 years ago. Yes, do the math with this current year being 2012 that means 2009 I put a plan in to effect. What was the plan? It didn't involve me sitting down and working out some elaborate algebraic formula on a dry erase board. Not even going to clinics or workshops and consulting the utmost respected or accomplished experts. No, none of that. Simply, I decided I wanted to lose weight, look better, feel better and to do that I needed to get serious. Then commit to it. So I did. It took awhile but, I finally landed a job that would allow me to engage in activity necessary to at the least, start the process. In short, at the time of this photo my job didn't allow me to even belong to a gym. That can clearly be seen in the picture. Look at how big I am. For the record that's the largest I've ever been in my life. And ironically, that weight was reeking havoc on my health and jeopardizing my life.
Within the year that followed, I was able to make changes to my job and it took a while for things to happen. A lot of that was not of my control. I simply had to be patient and wait for conditions to change and opportunities to arise. The alternative would have been to quit and then roll the dice on finding a new job relatively quickly and at that keep at the least the same wage. I had too many obligations to be that reckless. Plus, I'm not a twenty something kid. I'm an adult who has to behave responsibly.
So again this blog will serve as a platform for me to describe how I've been losing weight. Losing inches. I will discuss my workouts. What I do at the gym. What machines I'm on and why and even for how long. I'll talk about my diets. The foods I'm eating. Don't get it twisted. I won't be spewing paragraphs here with information as though I'm an expert on health/wellness and fitness. I'm sharing my journey. Period. So if you, (reader) have questions feel free to ask but again I'm not an expert so don't expect those types of responses. And yes, I will hit you back when I can. I'll post pictures and that's not to say the pictures will always be of me. I'll share my interests and activities I'm in to. For instance, I'm not only a writer but I'm a chef as well. I know, kind of making you say..hmm. Lol. I started a company as a cook for hire and actually the above posted picture is on a job, in a client's kitchen. I'll post recipes and even tips from me or tips I may have gotten from others I've encountered along my journey. I'll share a story real quick. I bought a pair of cargo shorts back in 2007. I ordered them online as a matter of fact. They're a pair of Nautica. Nauticas are cut narrow, that's just what it is. And they at the time only make them so large. I ordered the largest size from the catalog. 48 inch waist. I received them and could NOT get ONE leg in. I was that big and delusional. It's not uncommon, I found that big people don't realize or even worse lose track of how big they are. And I had become one of those people. I also bought a pair of cargo pants from Ralph Lauren from that same catalog. In the same size and when I receive them I had the same results from trying to wear them. Long story short, I kept both pair of those bottoms as motivation. 4 months ago I tried on both and was able to get them up, zipped and buttoned. However, they weren't Pret a Porter. Those of you in fashion will know what that phrase means. I have been wearing those bottoms now for over a month. And they are now too big in the waist. Now, that's progress. That's me seeing the fruits of my intense labor. And you know what, it feels good. I'm living my 'Life Less Than Heavy'.
